Product FAQs

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY JEWELLERY?

In general, we advise customers to keep their jewellery clean and dry inside
a ziplock bag when they are not wearing it, to keep it from tarnishing or
fading with time. For pieces made from 925 silver or brass with gold, rhodium
or electroplating, we recommend that you do not wear them when you go to
shower, swim or exercise, because the chemicals in soaps, pool water, and
perspiration can work to wear away the plating on jewellery and result in
tarnishing. However, certain pieces that have extra thick gold plating, special
anti-tarnish coatings or are made from stainless steel are more hardy and safer
to wear when going to shower, swim, or exercise.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY CANDLE?

While every candle burns differently, there are general tips to follow,
to get the most out of your scented candle:

  • Before every usage, trim the wick to a medium length to remove any
excess burnt portions. This keeps the flame at a regular size, so your
candle doesn’t burn through too quickly. It also is less likely to create
dirty black soot stains on the side of the candle glass.
    • Do not place your candle in a drafty area, that causes the flame to
burn bigger and burn through the wax too quickly.
    • When blowing out your candle, use a candle snuffer as a cleaner,
      more effective alternative.

We do have candle care sets available for purchase in store that you can use to
maintain the health of your candle. Each candle brand we carry in store has its
own unique features when it comes to burning time, ingredients, etc., so do
check with our staff to learn more about your favourite scented selections.

HOW DO I USE WOOD DIFFUSERS?

Wood diffusers are a great alternative to enjoying scents and fragrances with
no fire or burning involved. Suitable for small rooms, desks, and alcoves,
wood diffusers utilise the porous qualities of natural wood to hold the fragrance
oils and disperse it into the air. Each brand of wood diffuser will have its own
specific steps on how to use it, but here are the 2 most common forms:

    1. Wood block + Fragrance oil (just pour a few drops of fragrance oil on top of
the wood block and place the wood block in a small, preferably closed off
area. Leave it to naturally diffuse the scent after a few hours and top up
the fragrance oil when the wood appears dry.)
    2. Wooden reeds + Fragrance oil (stick the wooden reeds into the bottle of
fragrance oil, and give some time for the reeds to naturally pull the oil up
the stem and diffuse into the air. Use until the fragrance oil is depleted.)

WHY DOES MY CANDLE ONLY BURN IN THE CENTER?

This is called tunnelling: when the candle only burns in a small diameter and not
throughout the surface. This can have several causes including an uneven flame,
wind, room temperature, short burn times, excessive trimming of wick, etc.

To avoid tunnelling, first burn on a new candle is important. Make sure the
new candle is burnt until the top surface is completely melted.

To fix tunnelling, make a dome with aluminium foil to cover the candle as a lid.
This will ensure the heat is transferred evenly across the surface.

HOW CAN I TROUBLESHOOT DIFFERENT CANDLE WICKS?

    DROWNING WICK
A drowning wick is commonly caused by tunnelling, or trimming the
wick too short. Before the wick drowns completely, an easy way to
troubleshoot is by throwing out the wax. You can use the wax
on a tart burner to release the remaining fragrance.
    DROWNED WICK
If your wick has drowned completely, use a heat source (eg. heat gun) to melt
the top part of the candle, then throw out the wax. Stand wick back upright.

    SLANTING WICK
Our 100% cotton wick may lean sideways at times. Extinguish the candle,
and while the wax is still hot, simply push wick back to center
    with any inflammable object.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE BLACK SMOKE FROM MY CANDLE?

Give the candlewick a good trim to 1cm after each burn. A mushroomed wick
top is a good indicator that it needs to be trimmed. This will ensure the next
burn is clean from black smoke and soot.

WHY DOES MY CANDLE HAVE AN OIL SPOT ON THE TOP?

Some of the candles you receive may have of what we call a ‘candle sweat’,
this will not affect the scent throw or the burning quality of the candle. This occurs when the candle is exposed to heat, possibly during shipping/transit.

To fix, simply dab the surface with a paper towel, or place the candles
in a cooler temperature area to dry.

WHY DOES MY CANDLE HAVE A WEAK SCENT THROW?

This is affected by a few factors such as the size of the room, airflow
of the room, the duration of the burn, etc.

Larger candles reach wider space and area, if you have a small candle,
you will need more than one to cover bigger space with the scent.

Candles also need to be placed in a space with good airflow, so the
scent is dispersed properly across the room.

Remember, the wider the melted pool, the stronger the scent gets.
That being said, optimal scent throw wouldn’t be reached in minutes.
